| 8-8-2009 Update on Mustang Mares Both mares have settled in very nicely. They have learned that people are the Great Givers of the Grain. They eat in their stalls and are learning about giving to pressure on their halters. They bend Left and Right and give at the poll. They are learning that having the leads dangling off their halters is not evil and they wont be beaten to death by them. We put the leads on in their stalls and let them walk around and step on them and let them drag around. We changed T'aints name to Tessa. She is extremely friendly and is looking rather pregnant. I believe she has grown some since her nutrition has improved. Her new hoof growth is looking great. Cinder has also grown. She has grown up and OUT (we believe both are pregnant). Her color has changed due to bleaching from the sun. She will pick up her front feet for us. She doesn't like the barn kittens. At first she was fine but as her pregnancy moves along she is getting more impatient with them and will chase them and try to step on them. We moved the kittens to another barn so they wouldn't get hurt. Updated Pics are below |

Soon we will separate them so they can learn to depend on humans instead of each other. They need to be completely halter and lead trained before they deliver their foals. When they are fully responsive to the leads they will go to our handlers farm for a week. There they will learn to pick up all four feet for trims, learn to move their feet (front and back feet) when asked, round pen work, some bombproofing and begin tacking up (each at their own speed). If you come by the barn and see them in the pasture please read the sign and keep our horses safe . . . . . Thanks for caring about our girls ! |
